Reporter Jeff Grubb of GameSpot sister site Giant Bomb says Microsoft is considering bringing Gears of War to PlayStation. This would be yet another game that Microsoft is reportedly thinking about bringing to its rival’s platform, following previous reports that mentioned Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

“Gears of War is being considered for this,” Grubb said on Game Mess Mornings (via VGC), adding that this is not a guarantee as of yet but is reportedly a proposal under consideration.

Grubb went on to say that Microsoft planned to reveal its reported new game release strategy at the end of February, but due to the recent reports, the timeline could move up.

Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games 10 years ago in January 2014 for an undisclosed sum. The series has always been exclusive to Xbox on console, dating back to the first game in 2006. Since then, Microsoft has release Gears of War 4 and Gears 5. A turn-based spin-off, Gears Tactics, was released in 2020.

It recently came to light that Microsoft might be shifting focus and executing on a new strategy to bring some of its first-party games and franchises to rival platforms from Sony and Nintendo. This is not confirmed, however, so the details remain fuzzy.

Looking ahead, The Coalition is reportedly now working on Gears 6. Outside of games, Microsoft and Netflix partnered for a Gears of War film and an animated series. Jon Spaihts, known for Dune, Doctor Strange, and Prometheus, is writing the script.
