After a busy 2023, the Epic Games Store is looking to the future and has big self-improvement plans for 2024 and beyond. In an update, Epic said that 2023 saw a heavy focus on back-end developments for the Epic Games Store so that new features could be implemented, and this year, the plan is to further improve the user experience.

Epic says a new download manager is planned for early 2024, giving users more control over updates, scheduled downloads, and the option to reorder games in their download queue. Offline Mode is also being looked at, and Epic says the ability to deliberately switch to an offline state will be added alongside clearer information on errors.

On the social side, more “meaningful” friends lists are in the development pipeline, and you can expect the option to preload purchased games to also be added in the future. Subscription support is also being looked at, allowing you to earn rewards with subscriptions purchased on the Epic Games Store. Dynamic bundles are another interesting change on the horizon, as Epic is aiming to introduce bundled content where you won’t lose out on cost savings if you already own some of the items in that deal.

The other big announcement is Epic and Fortnite’s return to iOS in Europe. Epic doesn’t have an exact timeline for when the Epic Games Store or Fortnite will make its return to Apple devices yet, but these apps will only be available for iOS in countries covered by the European Union’s Digital Marketing Act. “We’ve received our Apple Developer Account and will start developing the Epic Games Store on iOS soon thanks to the new Digital Markets Act,” Epic said. “We plan to launch in 2024. Epic Games Sweden AB will operate the mobile Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe, with the Store team leading development.”

For those of you who regularly visit EGS for the weekly free games, you can expect this offer to continue throughout 2024. Epic says 86 free games were offered in 2023, and in total, 586 million free games were claimed.
