Best-sellers
As it does every three months when it releases a quarterly sales report, Nintendo has provided new sales numbers for the best-selling Switch games of all time. They’re all Nintendo games, and there are pretty much no surprises on the list.
At the top of the charts is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has sold an astonishing 60.58 million copies as of December 31, 2023. It sold 6.79 million copies in the past fiscal year, including more than 3 million additional sales in the past three months alone. Nintendo said The Super Mario Bros. Movie helped to lift sales of many Mario games, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Its gigantic success may also be attributable in part to it simply being a very good game that is easy to recommend to just about anyone.
The 60.58 million figure includes copies sold in hardware bundles, but it’s an impressive number all the same. For comparison, Red Dead Redemption II and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have sold 50 million copies each.
Also of note is Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the first brand-new Mario side-scroller in more than a decade. It released in October and sold 11.96 million units out of the gate.
Other Switch top-sellers include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey. Click through the gallery to see all the best-selling Switch games and their lifetime sales figures, as shared by Nintendo.
The figures shared in this gallery cover worldwide sales, spanning both physical and digital units.
The Switch, meanwhile, has now sold more than 132 million units worldwide, meaning it’s closing in on the PS2’s record.
